Sarah Smith and her husband, Garin, own and operate GrasslandOrganic Farm in Skowhegan, where they milk 40 cows and raise 4 acres of mixed vegetables, organic beef, pastured broiler chickens, laying hens and pigs. They offer seasonal CSA shares, and Sarah attends four farmers' markets year round while also raising their three children, Cedar (6), Reed (3) and Charlotte (9 months). Additionally, Sarah manages a multi-farm CSA in Skowhegan called The Pickup, which supports 40 food producers, serves more than 90 families each week and offers an all-local brunch cafe each Saturday. In her spare time, Sarah is the market manager of the Skowhegan Farmers' Market and is active in many community events throughout the year, including the blossoming Food Hub forming in Skowhegan. A MOFGA board member, Sarah has been farming for 12 years and has owned her farm since 2007. Before coming home to Maine, she comanaged the garden at Warren Wilson College and worked as student crew boss of the pork operation on the college’s farm.
